Projects

Beyond my job at Skyhook Wireless I am involved in a few other projects that ensure I have no free time.

Loki

Loki is actually a product that I am in charge of at Skyhook, but many people don’t know the two things are affiliated. Its a toolbar built on top of the Skyhook Wi-Fi Positioning System which allows you to perform all sorts of location-related things based on your current location — even if you don’t know where you are.

LocationAware.org

LocationAware.org is a Working Group that I chair that is focused on the standardization of geolocation on the web. The goal of the Working Group is to work closely with browser vendors, device makers, Web-application developers, content providers, and other interested parties to make location-aware browsing a reality. By standardizing the way in which browsers determine a user’s geolocation and the way in which Web applications obtain that information — while still ensuring protection of user control over privacy — we hope to increase the overall adoption and growth of location-based services on the Web as a whole.

WhereCamp

We recently hosted the first WhereCamp in Sunnyvale, CA at the Yahoo! campus. It was a great hit and we will hopefully be hosting more events like that around the US and Europe. You can stay up to date by checking the website or you can join the WhereCamp Yahoo Group mailing list.
