Skyhook, Mozilla launch Geode
Posted by Ryan Sarver under: Locationaware; Loki; Skyhook Wireless .

I’m excited to announce that Skyhook and Mozilla launched a joint project, Geode, to explore location-awareness in the browser. The Labs project also leverages the work we have been doing in the W3C around the Geolocation API and originally in Locationaware.org. Geode uses Skyhook as the sole location provider and then exposes that location through the DOM in the same way that we do with Loki.
Aza Raskin, the Director of User Experience at Mozilla Labs, has taken lead on the project and integrated an experimental UI to explore different interactions around how a user would expose their location to websites. They use a fuzzing technique that allows a user to not have to share their exact location, but can share it at varying levels like Exact, Neighborhood or City-level. A many thanks to Justin Dolske as well for doing the integration of Skyhook technology into Geode.
So if you want to check it out, go download Geode and check out the Food Finder example.
