Yahoo! Music Engine
Posted by Ryan Sarver under: Technology .
As anyone who reads my site probably knows, I am a huge fan of Om Malik’s writing. I am an avid B2.0 reader and read his blog daily. I think I like his writing mostly because he seems to synthesize my thoughts before I have fully realized them.
A great example of this is a post he made last month about the Yahoo! Music Engine and an analysis of their business model. He goes on to explain that they have created an on-demand, personal radio station and look like they are counting on making their money through advertising. In my opinion, his analysis of their model in terms of an on-demand radio station, is right on. Through a strong recommendation system, they help me build a station that plays to my likes and dislikes better than any system I have used to date. On of my (many) gripes with iTunes was the poor recommendation system they used. I purchase much more music through a system that helps me discover new artists, typically artists that I would never come across on my own, and this is where YME shines.
If you ha vent downloaded YME yet… do yourself a favor and download it.
